I discovered the art of glass flameworking in 2013 at a time in my life that I needed a creative and therapeutic outlet. Working with glass taught me many valuable life lessons and helped to build a solid pathway to sobriety. I began teaching glass flameworking classes at our studio Bear River Glassworks in Grass Valley in 2020 to share the magic of creating glass art with others.
Specializing in gold and silver “fuming”, I use pure and gold and silver to create ethereal colors and patterns in the glass which I then use to create many different works of art. Pendants, marbles, drinkware, hummingbird feeders, beads, oil lamps, Christmas ornaments and more.
Prices for my work range from about $25-$500 depending on size and complexity. And I have something for everyone. Glass art is timeless, and my creations will last for generations when properly cared for.
Roxanne Van Paing – Italian Glass Lampworking/Glass Flameworking
Hailing from Maui, Roxanne has been working with glass for about 10 years. She specializes in Murano style soft glass mandrel beads and jewelry with an aquatic theme developed during her time living on the islands of Hawaii. Her organic style and free-form expression are an embodiment of her spirit and her love for the ocean and the mana surrounding life on the islands.
Her newly developed love for gold and silver “fuming” is showcased in her work with borosilicate glass. She makes pendants, ornaments, tree toppers, and other works with this technique.
She also teaches the art of Lampworking as co-owner of Bear River Glassworks in Grass Valley, California. Classes are available privately or in groups by appointment.
